Spirometry

Spirometry is a simple, non-invasive examination that allows measuring the amount and speed of air that the patient inhales and exhales. It helps determine how well the lungs function and whether the airways are narrowed or otherwise damaged.

Spirometry is considered the gold standard for assessing lung function. The examination is quick, safe and provides valuable information about the state of the respiratory system. Results help doctors not only in diagnosis but also in monitoring treatment effectiveness.

When is spirometry used?

When COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is suspected or bronchial asthma
In patients with asthma
In cases of long-term cough or shortness of breath
To monitor treatment effectiveness
As part of occupational medical examinations
Before surgical procedures

Examination Preparation

The examination does not require special preparation. However, we recommend not eating heavy meals 2 hours before the examination and not smoking at least 1 hour before.

Why is it important?

It is a fast and reliable method to detect breathing disorders early – even when the patient does not yet experience significant problems.
