Lung Diffusion Test
Measurement of gas transfer across the lung membrane

Quick Information
Lung Diffusion Test
Lung diffusion test measures the ability of the lungs to transfer gases (especially oxygen) from alveoli to blood. This examination provides information about lung membrane function.
Diffusion capacity is a key indicator of alveolo-capillary membrane function. Decreased diffusion capacity may be an early sign of interstitial lung diseases.
When is the examination used?
Examination Preparation
The patient should not smoke at least 24 hours before the examination
Examination Principle
The test uses carbon monoxide as a test gas to measure diffusion capacity
Why is it important?
Key examination for diagnosing lung tissue diseases and assessing gas exchange in the lungs.
