Bronchodilator Test

An examination that evaluates the reversibility of airway narrowing after administration of an inhaled medication (bronchodilator). It is performed using spirometry before and after medication administration. It helps in the diagnosis of asthma and assessment of treatment effectiveness.

The bronchodilator test is a key examination for differential diagnosis of asthma and COPD. It allows assessment of whether airway narrowing is reversible (asthma) or irreversible (COPD).

When is the examination used?

When asthma is suspected
For differential diagnosis of asthma and COPD
To monitor the effectiveness of bronchodilator treatment
Before starting inhaled corticosteroid treatment
When assessing bronchial hyperreactivity
In patients with chronic cough
When obstructive lung disease is suspected

Examination Preparation

The patient should not use bronchodilators at least 12 hours before the examination

Why is it important?
